The more we worked with our first terrazzo compound in our debut watch collection, La Grande Mer, the more we knew we were at the tip of the iceberg.
The concept started in 2019, traveling throughout tropical Thailand in search of surf and adventure. It didn't take long to see the deeper layer of impact that excess fishing nets have had on the land and the lives that call it home.
This is pretty much why La Grande Mer was born.
It seemed logical that if we could engineer a compound strong enough and durable enough to be used in high end watch manufacture, it might have some more "broad" applications that will actually allow us to use more & clean up more = win, win situation.
2019 ended like most years do - holidays, winter surf in California and alot of anticipation about our debut watch collection that was planned to launch springtime of 2020...
Our story is just another story among billions of people who have done their best to hold on, resist, cooperate and most of all, adapt to the things that are going on well beyond our control.
Over a year into this mess, the stress on global manufacturing and product development is real. In a time that we most need innovation to deal with our plastics problems, the small guys like us face so much challenge in following through on complex development of sustainable materials.
Eventually it forced a whole change of direction. A "tack into the wind" was needed. Facing so many limitations of the known ways to innovate, we opted for a less obvious solution and as you can guess it was right under the nose.
Now pointed dead into the wind, our boat is sailing towards innovation with a steady line and eyes on the horizon.
A big thanks to everyone who has enjoyed our products fueled by the passion of travel and adventure. By purchasing our Kudmai Decor Products and our Swiss made 44mm Automatic watch, La Grande Mer you are helping us to prove that we can stand up to confront our on impact mother earth & we can celebrate the journey as much as the final products...
Development currently in progress...stay tuned!
